WEEDS, WEEDS, WEEDS! We can't stress it enough: please ensure you protect your family and community by reducing prime mosquito habitat. Remember: tall weeds also prevent the Town's vector control spraying efforts.

Due to the increased risk of spreading the West Nile Virus and the Zika Virus as well as other diseases throughout Mesilla by mosquitos and other pests, we ask that you implement the following precautions:

·        Cut and maintain the grass and weeds in and around your property, including unnecessary or uncontrolled vegetation on agricultural land.

·        Eliminate uncontrolled growths of weeds and grasses; and accumulations of materials and debris along property lines, ditches, and fences; or alongside buildings or vehicles.

·        Eliminate any standing water, or items that can collect and hold water.

·        Eliminate any items such as tires, household and yard items, vehicles, and junk and debris that can harbor mosquitos or other pests such as rodents, snakes, and harmful insects that might spread infections.

Codes Enforcement will be monitoring all properties in Mesilla, especially those with uncontrolled vegetation and items that can harbor rodents, snakes, and insects; and cite those that do not comply.

Thank you for helping us in this effort to control the potential spread of the West Nile Virus and other harmful diseases that tend to occur during periods of rainfall and warmer weather.
